The Cape Zanpa area is especially popular due to it’s proximity to Naha and the wide range of activities that the area supports.
Beach notes
The main beach is just west of the hotel and offers a well maintained sandy area with commercial vendors. There are additional sandy areas north and south from the main commercial beach.
Fishing notes:
Fishing is popular off the north faces cliffs near and east of the lighthouse. Caution should be exercised due to the unstable footing and steep / high position of fishing positions. Fishing positions are also exposed to North / Northwest swell and the deep water / steep cliffs topography results in large and unpredictable waves breaking onto the northern cliffs. Fishermen have been washed to sea and drown from this location.
Snorkeling notes:
The shallow area, inside the reef, provides a normally sheltered swimming and snorkeling area off the west facing beaches adjacent to the hotel. Tides greatly affect the water depth in this area and caution needs to be exercised when swimming near the outer reef due to rip currents.
In warm months a swim platform may be anchored in the middle of the swim area but the platform is private and used for SCUBA training.
Parking notes
The main, large parking area is at the end of the road and nearest to the prominent lighthouse. Parking area is normally free but may be busy during summer months.
Surfing notes
Surfing at Cape Zanpa is possible but is not beginner friendly due to the distance from the beach and rocks near the break.
SCUBA diving notes
Diving in the Cape Zanpa area is popular due to the steep dropoff along the outer reef or northern cliffs and relatively easy access. Bolo Point provides both boat diving and shore accessed diving.
Other notes
A nice lighthouse (300 yen) and walking path provides fantastic views from Cape Zanpa. There a few restaurants on-site and nearby. Additionally, Yomitan has great restaurants and cafes, many catering to Western tastes.
